Is my diffuser durable? Will the magnets rust and the plastic break down?
The magnets used are the strongest grade of neodymium magnets (N52) and are considered “permanent” as they will stay strongly magnetic. These magnets can tolerate thermal stress and other forms of environmental weathering. As they are coated with gold or nickle, they will not rust. The outer PLA plastic coating has high strength and stiffness under temperatures below 50°C/122°F (Markforged 2021). Your device should be kept out of direct sunlight and heat to preserve its appearance and extend its PLA plastic lifespan.

Are my Scently materials of low quality?
Absolutely not. We have made great efforts to carefully source premium materials for our diffusers. The PLA is made in Canada and USA (depending on color)— and our magnets are the highest-grade possible.

Will my Scently diffuser fall off as I move around?
No, your diffuser is unlikely to fall off. The device is held together by the highest-grade of Neodymium magnets available. These magnets are super strong. Read more about why we have chosen to use Neodymium magnets here.
If the Neodymium magnets used are so strong, is it safe having this magnet so close to my face?
Magnetic fields are not dangerous to humans. Your magnets are also very small, they can be safely worn without health risks. Do be careful when assembling your diffuser as the magnets are very strong and may jump together with some force.

Are the Scently diffuser plastics environmentally unfriendly?
Unlike and most polyester plastics, PLA plastics are more eco-friendly. Made from natural materials (Barrett 2019) instead of fossil fuels, PLA has been praised for its low carbon footprint (Zheng and Suh 2019). Not only is the manufacturing process more environmentally conscious, PLA is also biodegradable.
